How do I book a space?
Go to www.booking.ssl.fo and click on 'Book'. Fill out the fields and pay by card if you do not have an SSL user account. If you have an SSL user account, remember to log in before booking.
You will then receive a booking confirmation by email.

Is it necessary to book a space?
We recommend all our passengers to book a space in the booking system, as vehicles and passengers with a booking have priority, and you also get a better price.

It is possible to show up and wait in line, but then you are not guaranteed a space on board, and the ticket price is higher if you buy the ticket at departure.
Is it necessary to create an SSL user account?
We recommend all our users, who are permanent residents in the Faroe Islands, to create a user account in our booking system and verify their address to secure the resident price.

Is there an advantage to creating an SSL user account?
Yes. If you have a user account and verify your address with your national ID number, you pay the resident price. You also have the option to purchase an annual pass for a person/vehicle on specific routes, which gives you greater discounts the more you travel.
Is there an advantage to having an SSL user account if I am not a resident of the Faroe Islands and don't travel often with SSL?
No, there is no advantage to having an SSL user account if you are not a resident and rarely travel with SSL. In that case, simply book directly in the system without logging in.
When should I arrive in the queue if I have booked a space?
Vehicles with a booking must be in line no later than 15 minutes before departure. If you don't arrive on time, you may lose your booking to another vehicle without a booking. You will not be entitled to a refund.
Foot passengers must arrive no later than 10 minutes before departure.
Is it necessary to book a space if I am not traveling by car?
We recommend all our passengers to buy a ticket in the booking system before departure. This guarantees both a space and a better price. If you buy your ticket at departure, the price is higher. On some routes, space is very limited, so booking in advance is necessary to secure your place.
How do I know if there is space on the trip I want?
If it is possible to select the trip in the booking system, there is still space. Trips where all spaces are booked cannot be selected. The number shown in brackets indicates the available tickets for the specific departure.
Can I get on a waiting list if I cannot book space for my car?
No, there is no waiting list. You can wait in line with vehicles/foot passengers that have not booked.
Can I cancel a booked trip?
Yes, at the bottom of the confirmation email, there is a link where you can make changes or cancel your booking.
Deadlines for changes/cancellations:
Routes 7, 56, 58, 61, 66, and 90: Up to 2 hours before departure
Route 36: Up to 24 hours before departure

Can I change a booked trip?
Yes, at the bottom of the confirmation email there is a link where you can make changes to the booking. You can change the departure time, vehicle license plate, and cancel the booking.

Do I get a refund if I cancel a trip?
If the trip is canceled at least 2 hours before departure (24 hours for Route 36/Mykines), you will get a refund. After that, cancellation is not possible, and you will not be refunded.
Do I get a refund if I don't show up?
No, if you don't show up for your booked trip, you will not get a refund.
Do I have to show my ticket when boarding?
Foot passengers: Must show their ticket when boarding (QR code).
Vehicles: The license plate is scanned when boarding, but we recommend keeping your ticket accessible. SSL staff may ask to see it.
IMPORTANT: The correct license plate must be registered in the booking. If it is incorrect, you will be considered a no-show and must buy a ticket on-site like other vehicles without a booking.
I haven't received the booking confirmation, what should I do?
Check that the correct email address was entered, and check your spam folder. If you booked with your SSL user account, you can see your bookings there.
I haven't booked a space, can I still show up?
Yes, you can show up and buy a ticket at departure, but note:
Vehicles with a booking have priority, and others are only allowed on board if space is available.
Foot passengers with a booking have priority.
The ticket price is higher if you buy at departure compared to booking in advance.
How do I know my booking is registered?
You will receive an email confirmation. If you booked with your user account, you can view your bookings there. If you did not receive confirmation, your booking is not registered.
I have paid for a ticket but received no booking confirmation. What should I do?
If you did not receive a confirmation email and your booking is not visible on your user account, the booking did not go through.
You must have a valid booking confirmation/QR code at departure. Proof of payment from your card or user account is not enough.
If money has been withdrawn but you have no ticket, contact our Booking Support at +298 343000 or bookingsupport@ssl.fo, and provide the route, departure time, and the email or account you tried booking with.
How do I know my booking is canceled?
You will receive an email confirming the cancellation.
Can I pay with gift cards or other SSL cards?
No, gift cards cannot be used on board. We recommend creating a user account and verifying your address for the best prices and terms (permanent residents only). With a user account, you can buy an annual pass for a specific route, giving you greater discounts the more you travel (permanent residents only).
If you have a gift card with remaining balance, you can return it at the terminal in Tórshavn, in the kiosk on board Smyril, or at the main office in Tvøroyri to get the remaining amount refunded to your account.
Students with a Studni card can still use their student card to travel.
I have an electric car. Is it harder to get space for it in the booking system?
No, you can still book space for an electric car. For safety reasons, we would like to know how many electric cars are on board. Please tick the electric car option when booking.
I want to book space for a rental car, but I don't know the license plate yet. Can I still book?
Yes, you can book space with a temporary license plate. Once you know the correct license plate, you can update your booking up to 2 hours before departure (24 hours for the Mykines route).

How do I travel with a Studni or ÍSF card?
At the moment, it is not possible to book space with these cards. If your Studni card gives you the right to travel between Suðuroy and Tórshavn, you can use the card when boarding.
Groups traveling with ÍSF cards must board together. One representative must arrange the group's tickets before departure.
