Purchase and Order Terms & Conditions

Permanent Residents

If you are a permanent resident of the Faroe Islands, we recommend creating an SSL user account and booking your tickets through it. To secure the resident price, your address must be verified with your p-number on your user account before making a booking.

Important Information

Your Responsibility:
It is your responsibility to ensure your address is verified in your SSL user account before booking. Only verified residents receive the resident price and applicable terms.

No Retroactive Refunds:
Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL) does not offer refunds for price differences if your ticket was purchased without a verified user account, even after the trip is completed.

Rules for Use and Misuse

  • For Individuals Only: The resident discount is for personal use only. Businesses, institutions, or other commercial entities cannot use the system to obtain the resident price.

  • Personal Use Only: Your SSL user account is personal. You may not use it to book tickets at the resident price for others who do not qualify as residents.

  • Consequences of Misuse: SSL reserves the right to claim repayment of the price difference between the resident and standard price if misuse is detected. In cases of serious or repeated misuse, access to the discount system may be revoked.

Note:
Travelers without permanent residence in the Faroe Islands do not need an SSL user account and can book directly without logging in.

Booking Deadlines

  • Route 7: Up to 1 hour before departure

  • Routes 56, 58, 66, 90: Up to 30 minutes before departure

  • Route 36: Up to the time of departure

After these deadlines, only standby tickets can be purchased. Standby tickets do not guarantee a space on board. Travelers with valid bookings within the deadlines have priority, provided they arrive on time.

Payment Options

  • Pay by credit card (card provider fees may apply)

  • SSL users can deposit funds into their account for future bookings

  • You can securely save your credit card to your user account for faster payment

Arrival Requirements

Vehicles:

  • Must be in the car lane at least 15 minutes before departure

  • The license plate and vehicle size on the ticket must match the actual vehicle

Important:
If the vehicle arrives late or the booking details are incorrect, SSL staff may refuse boarding. Tickets will not be refunded in such cases. Bookings are only valid for the registered vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.

Foot Travelers:
Must arrive at least 10 minutes before departure and present a valid ticket when boarding.

Changes and Cancellations

  • Routes 7, 56, 58, 66, 90: Changes or cancellations allowed up to 2 hours before departure

  • Route 36: Changes or cancellations allowed up to 24 hours before departure

You can change or cancel your booking via your SSL user account or by using the 'edit booking' link in your order receipt.

Refunds:
Tickets canceled within the deadline will be refunded to your SSL user account or credit card. Credit card refunds may take a few business days. Contact your bank if the refund does not appear.

Tickets that are not canceled within the deadline, or not used, will not be refunded.

SSL Cancellations

If SSL cancels a departure, your ticket will be refunded to your SSL account or credit card. You are responsible for booking a new departure yourself.

Stay updated on cancellations at ssl.fo or by signing up for SMS notifications.

SSL does not reimburse additional expenses or lost income caused by delays or cancellations.

Other Important Notes

  • You are responsible for booking the correct departure.

  • You must ensure that all ticket details are correct.

  • You are responsible for making any changes or cancellations within the specified deadlines to be eligible for a refund.

Emergency Vehicles

If an emergency vehicle (e.g., ambulance) requires space on the ferry, the last vehicle in the queue must give up their space.
